Hall’s Hill Wall Marker Dedicated

On February 26 the Halls Hill/Highview Park Preservation Coalition and County officials unveiled a marker for the Hall’s Hill Wall. Built in the 1930’s between the then-white community of Woodlawn and the African-American community of Hall’s Hill. Portions of the wall were removed in the 1960’s to build Culpeper Street and allow children easier access to local schools. The wall remains today as a symbol of our past. Published in 2015, by a 30+ year member of the Arlington Police Department, this book contains fascinating information about our great police department. Author Janet Rowe was with the Arlington police from the early 1980’s until 2012. The book contains photographs from the Police Archives as well as from the personal collections of other officers. Little Saigon Booklet Now Available

After two well-attended public unveiling events this fall, a new booklet about Arlington’s former Little Saigon is now available to the public. Called Echoes of Little Saigon, the full-color booklet was authored by Kim O’Connell with support from Arlington County’s Department of Cultural Affairs, Historic Preservation Program, and Center for Local History and a grant from the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities.
