Ball Family Burial Ground Preserved

At their February 28 meeting, the Arlington County Board approved the redevelopment of the Central United Methodist Church property in Ballston. The mixed use building will include the a new church, daycare and 119 apartments, of which 48 will be affordable to households with income at 40%-60% of the area median income. Hall’s Hill Wall Marker Dedicated

On February 26 the Halls Hill/Highview Park Preservation Coalition and County officials unveiled a marker for the Hall’s Hill Wall. Built in the 1930’s between the then-white community of Woodlawn and the African-American community of Hall’s Hill. Portions of the wall were removed in the 1960’s to build Culpeper Street and allow children easier access to local schools. The wall remains today as a symbol of our past. In February 2017, a total of twelve (12) demolition permits were applied for in Arlington County. In comparison, February 2016 was 21; February 2015 was 11; and February 2014 was 11.
