After two well-attended public unveiling events this fall, a new booklet about Arlington’s former Little Saigon is now available to the public. Called Echoes of Little Saigon, the full-color booklet was authored by Kim O’Connell with support from Arlington County’s Department of Cultural Affairs, Historic Preservation Program, and Center for Local History and a grant from the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities. In October 2016, a total of fifteen (15) demolition permits were applied for in Arlington County. Twelve are for single-family homes. Three of the properties are in South Arlington. At least three of the projects are speculative developments. This Saturday, November 5, the Arlington County Board will consider a request to advertise (RTA) public hearings at the Planning Commission and the County Board for the proposed Local Historic District Designation of the Robert Ball Sr. Burial Ground, at 4201 Fairfax Drive in Ballston. On October 19, the Historical Affairs and Landmark Review Board recommended that the County Board hold public hearings to designate the local historic district.
