The demo permits started off 2023 strong with a total of 19 permit applications. All are for single family homes and all but one are in North Arlington. 42% were in National Register Historic Districts; 37% were speculative developments; and, 21% were sold for over a $1m only to be demolished.
Seven of the homes are located in National Register Historic Districts. Three of these tear-downs are speculative developments by builders. The designation does provide an opportunity for tax credits for certain types of work done on the homes. However, these districts provide no protection for the homes. These include:
