Local Historic Districts

Arlington County is rich in history and our built environment is a reflection of that. In Arlington County there are locally-designated historic districts, which provide the greatest protection for our historic resources. There are also National Register of Historic Places listings, historic easements and historical markers. The locally-designated districts are buildings, sites and neighborhoods which capture our history and heritage. Each of these is approved by the County Board on recommendation of the Historical Affairs and Landmark Review Board.

In order to celebrate these locally designated districts AND to provide some relief during the COVID-19 quarantine/stay-at-home order from our local and state governments, Preservation Arlington has put together two collections of online puzzles. The first of these covers Local Historic Districts. Not all are featured right now. For a full list of our local historic districts, along with details on the properties and their addresses, please visit the County website.

The puzzles are randomly set-up with the number and shape of pieces. Puzzlers can change it around to meet their puzzling skill level or that of their children. And, once we are out of this stay-at-home order we hope you can visit some of these sites in person.
