Maywood Design Guidelines Updated

Maywood Design Guidelines Updated

Arlington’s only single family home neighborhood with a local historic district designation, Maywood, has had overlay protection since 1990. At the time the district was established, the County also adopted the Maywood Design Guidelines. The guidelines had been updated in 2005 and in 2011. This third update to the Maywood Design Guidelines is expected to simplify the design review process by changing the requirements for obtaining a Certificate of Appropriateness (CoA) from the Historical Affairs and Landmark Review Board (HALRB) and allow more projects to qualify for an Administrative CoA (ACoA). The changes are the result of a two-year process between County historic preservation staff, the HALRB, and property owners in the Maywood Local Historic District. A copy of the staff report as part of the March 21 County Board Public Hearing is available online.

The Maywood Neighborhood is located in North Arlington just off Lee Highway and adjacent to the Cherrydale Business District. More information on Maywood is available online. A copy of the newly amended Maywood Design Guidelines can be download from the County website.
