Fraber House On the Market
As has long been planned, the century-old Fraber House, located at 1612 North Quincy Street in Cherrydale, has been put on the market by Arlington County. The County has owned the house — a classic bungalow — for more than a decade and designated it as a Local Historic District earlier this year. This provides the strongest possible protection against demolition by any future owner.
To sell the property, the County has engaged the services of John Plank Real Estate Services, Inc., with Long and Foster Real Estate. The house is currently listed at $599,900. (Click here for the listing, which includes a virtual tour.) The County says it will use the proceeds to help fund future parkland acquisition.
The Fraber House was built in 1913 for John William Fraber and his wife, Lucia, and is listed as a “contributing building” in the Cherrydale National Register Historic District. The three-bedroom, one-bath house sits on an 11,000-square-foot lot that backs up to Oakgrove Park. The house is in good condition and needs only cosmetic repairs, according to county officials. In June, a large tree fell on the home, causing some minor damage that did not affect the historic designation or the historic integrity of the house.

Curious about what the County’s total investment in the property has been to date? It’s a remarkable house of it’s type, especially given the large number of windows. Is the garage included? Hope it can be protected and preserved under new Historic District designation.
