June was a slow month for applications being submitted for the demolition of single family homes. Only 6 permits were applied for with an additional 4 for a collection of garden apartments in the Rosslyn area. Of the six homes, one-third were in South Arlington and one-half were speculative. The big news for 2021 is: 26 homes were purchased for over $1 million and then demolished. A home was purchased for $1.7 million in Ashton Heights and demolished. At least a dozen of the homes purchased over a $1 million were bought by developers and demolished. Fourteen of these homes over $1 million are located in one of Arlington’s National Register Historic Districts.
