  1. Thanks for liking our link at the Arlington Historical Society! We’re on Facebook, too!

  2. I would like to join Preservation Arlington, as I agree with all of your endangered places list (except the Blue Goose). When we lived in Colorado Springs, I was on the city’s historic preservation board, the Board of Directors for the non-profit Preservation Alliance, and the state’s Endangered Places committee, and I am very committed to historic preservation. Please let me know where to send my membership fee.
    Thanks –

    1. Great Question Gail, one that many people have been asking.

4770 Lee Highway, along with a parking lot on the northside of Lee Hwy were purchased May 2010 by Apline Investment Holdings. Alpine Investment is affiliated with the owners of BCN Homebuilders and Clarendon restaurants Lyon Hall, Liberty Tavern and Northside Social. No building permits have been issued for the property at this time.

An affiliated company, Arlington Investment Holdings purchased the buildings adjacent, 4784 and 4782 Lee Highway in December 2012.

There really hasn’t been much news about the building since the initial purchase:

Because the restaurant has been closed for such a period of time any “grandfathered” land use or zoning exceptions have expired and everything must be brought up to current code and regulations.

  3. I WANT TO BUY OLD SOUND GEAR-PUBLIC ADDRESS EQUIPMENT FROM OLD BUILDINGS THAT ARE TO BE DEMOLISHED. THE OLDER THE BETTER. WHO DO I CONTACT AT THE BLUE GOOSE BUILDING? I WANT SPEAKERS, AMPS, MICROPHONES ETC. 2025279501 EMAIL: VCVDC@MSN.COM

    1. Hi, We are salvaging (with blessing from the developer) at a house in N. Arlington that will soon be torn down. We have researched the family that lived there and want to write an article for the local paper to honor their legacy. Would you be interested in photographing it?

  4. I believe I read on your site that being on the National Register does nothing to protect our neighborhood, that we would also need to become a local historic district. Please tell us how to go about this. We are in Highland Park (Fostoria) neighborhood. Thank you.

  5. Carol:
You are correct that the National Register designation provides some financial benefits (depending on what you are doing) but no overall protection. The only way to get that would be to get your neighborhood (or portions of it) designated an Arlington Local Historic District. The Highland Park/Fostoria designation for the National Register was included (as a link) in the March 5 piece on “LOST: February 2014”. That can give you all the background information you need to start.

Then, the second stop is the County Historic Preservation Office. They are ready and prepared to respond to neighborhoods looking for designation. Contact them here:

  6. Carol and others interested in learning more about local historic district designation:

I am Cynthia Liccese-Torres, the County’s Historic Preservation Program Coordinator. I would be happy to answer any specific questions you have about the local historic district designation process as well as the benefits of local designation. Arlington currently has 34 local historic districts, which range from individual homes and buildings, cemeteries and churches, schools and forts, to garden apartment communities and residential neighborhoods.
Please feel free to contact me here: http://www.arlingtonva.us/departments/CPHD/ons/hp/CPHDOnsHpContactUs.aspx
Thanks so much for your interest in wanting to learn more about how to protect the character of your historic neighborhood.

  7. Please email me back re: your activities, membership criteria (including rate and duration of dues), how I can get involved and attend a meeting, etc.

I am a lifelong Arlingtonian who has a keen interest in county history and would like to see localities from yesteryear preserved and not be at mercy to the bulldozer in a haphazard fashion.
