In the last 16 years, close to 2400 single family homes have been demolished in Arlington. 2024 with 153 demolition, is the ninth highest year since 2009 when Preservation Arlington began tracking demolitions.

The highlights for 2024 include:

• 54 homes were purchased for over $1 million and then demolished — a 23% increase over 2023
  • Eleven of these were sold for over $1.5 million
  • 80% of the sales over $1 million were speculative purchases by developers
  • 50% of these homes which sold for over $1 million are located in one of Arlington’s National Register Historic Districts.
• 153 homes demolished
  • 122 in North Arlington
  • 20 in South Arlington
  • 50 in National Register Historic Districts
  • 71% were purchased by developers for speculative development
• 5 Commercial properties
