LOST: December 2023

In December 8 demolition permits were applied for and all but one were for single family homes. Of the homes, all are in North Arlington. The majority (5 of 7) are in speculative tear downs by developers, with one having sold for over $1 million only to be demolished, and, four are located in National Register Historic Districts.

One property being demolished is a community building that is part of a major siteplan project approved by the County Board. Arlington Temple United Methodist Church in Rosslyn will be torn down and replaced with a new facility.

These National Register districts provide some tax benefits to owners but do not offer any protection of the houses from demolition. It is very unusual to see a tear down in Arlington Forest, but this month it happened. The two homes on the demolition list that are located in National Register Historic Districts, include:

361 North Granada Street in the Arlington Forest National Register Historic District
2011 North Utah Street in the Cherrydale National Register Historic District
912 North Cleveland Street in the Lyon Park National Register Historic District
1507 North Hancock Street in the Lyon Village National Register Historic District
