For Sale: Alcova
Alcova is one of the rare single family homes in Arlington which is also a designated local historic district. Built in 1860, it was designated almost 40 years ago, in October 1978. The house name Alcova comes from the first three letters of Alexandria County, Virginia. At one time it was part of a 100+ acres which was subdivided to create the Alcova Heights neighborhood. The 1978 nomination contains additional information on the home.
Alcova sits on 3/4 acre and can be enjoyed from the wonderful wraparound porch. The property has recently undergone renovations and upgrades including a new red metal roof and a modern kitchen. Old features of the house are still throughout from mahogany pocket doors and random width plank floors to four fireplaces.
The 4 BR 4 BA house will be open Sunday, March 11 from 1-4. To see the full listing for the house, please visit the listing agents website.
On occasion, Preservation Arlington will highlight unique historic houses that are on the market in Arlington County. We hope to raise awareness of some of the true housing gems we have here. Some might be in great condition and just need to be maintained by their next owner, while others may need a steward with heart and passion to restore and stabilize the property. The house is beautiful on the inside and out. I hope it finds a new family that loves it as much as the current one.
