A total of 1322 single family home demolition permits have been applied for in Arlington County over the last nine years. In 2017, the number of applications was 158, an 8% drop from 2016, which followed a 15% drop from 2015. Here is a year by year listing:

Million Dollar Teardowns
In 2017, a total of 12 demolition permits were issued for homes that had recently been purchased for over $1,000,000. Half of these homes were in 22207 and half were in 22201 near the Clarendon Metro. An additional 12 homes were purchased for over $900,000. Three of these were in 22201 and nine were in 22207.

None of these two dozen properties had extra lots or development potential beyond one single family home. (Home on lots with extra development potential continue to be sold, but these are not included in this number).

In 2017, 15% of single family homes slated for demolition were recently purchased for more than $900,000.

  1. I was sad to see the home where I spent my first nine years torn down. A three story single house circa 1930 at the corner of 19th and Grant.” On a double lot. They were asking $650,000….
