Arlington Bookshelf: Hidden History of Arlington County
A new addition to our bookshelf is the just-published Hidden History of Arlington County. Charlie Clark, who writes the “Our Man in Arlington” column for the Falls Church News-Press, has published this new collection of his stories on Arlington. This is a collection of the “off-beat or scoop-worthy” columns from the past three years.
The book covers many of those things that happen in Arlington but don’t make the news or have been relegated to storytelling by the locals. Charlie does a great job of documenting some of these tales and usually setting the story straight. He covers such great topics as: Wilson Picket singing at a local school; General Patton as a neighbor; the other Colonel visiting Arlington; the various Nazi party headquarter locations; and, a few ghost stories.
This book is great for those who remember the stories. It is also great for those who are new and haven’t heard about our colorful history.
The book is available here in Arlington at One More Page Books and Ayers Variety. Copies will be available at Arlington Library, but there is currently 18 person wait list. It is also available online.
Charlie Clark published Arlington County Chronicles in 2014. It is available online.
Clark grew up in the Cherrydale and Chain Bridge neighborhoods, graduating from Yorktown High School in 1971. He lives with his wife in Arlington’s East Falls Church neighborhood.
