Introducing Arlington’s newest Local Historic: Cambridge Courts Cambridgelocated at 2401-2813 Arlington Blvd in Arlington’s Lyon Park neighborhood. This is the third garden apartment complex designated a local historic district, joining Colonial Village and Buckingham. Cambridge Courts is a complex of 20 Colonial (Georgian) Revival-styled buildings and identified as contributing to the Lyon Park National Register Historic District. The almost seven acre site includes 20 buildings comprising 159 individually owned units. Built in 1943 as apartments the project converted to condominium ownership between 1984-1986. The Cambridge Courts Condominium Association approached the County seeking designation.

The designation is the result of a 16 month study of the property. In the study, the County found that the property An excellent and comprehensive staff report is available on the County website. This report details the history of the project as it relates to national housing policy and programs of the early 1940’s — providing affordable and well built housing for America.

The designation received unanimous support from the Planning Commission and was approved 5-0 by the County Board, as part of their January 28, 2016 Consent Agenda. Preservation Arlington applauds the community effort to designate this important historic property and story.
