Preserved & Developed: 1812 North Moore Street
Arlington’s newest and tallest building, 1812 North Moore Street, is the next chapter in the story of Rosslyn. Arlington County is undertaking a major planning study, Realize Rosslyn, to “continue Rosslyn’s transformation from an auto-centric area into a more walkable, vibrant and distinctive urban place that features great housing, retail and office space.”
This is a long way from the early days of Rosslyn, when it was a haven for pawnshops, oil tank farms and auto sales and repair places.
In a nod to the history of Rosslyn and this property in particular, the developers of 1812 North Moore Street, Monday Properties, have incorporated an incredible high-quality historic image of Rosslyn into their gorgeous modern lobby.
The central point of the image is the 11-story Fort Myer Drive building, which once stood at this property and at the time was clearly the tallest building around.
Preservation Arlington applauds the developer for including this high-quality aerial image as the backdrop for the building’s European marble features and modern furnishings.
We believe preservation is about telling the unique story of a place, and sometimes that story is told by preserving a building and sometimes it is told by a single, iconic image.
