Upcoming Hearing: Proposed Arlington Presbyterian Church Historic District

The proposed Arlington Presbyterian Church Historic District is one of several items before the County’s Historic Affairs and Landmark Review Board (HALRB) at their January 22 hearing. According to the online schedule for the hearing, it will be addressed during the “Discussion Item” at 7:45 pm.

Staff has completed a lengthy analysis of the request to designate this property as a local historic district. The 75-page report is also available online. This impressive report documents the building’s construction history from 1931 to the most recent work in 1961. and includes many historic photos about the building and its occupants. The report indicates that the church meets four of the historic designation requirements, as well as a potential fifth requirement.

Arlington Presbyterian Church Preservation Arlington is advocating that APC work with the greater community to look for innovative ways to preserve the structure and fulfill their goal of providing affordable housing to the community. The Form Based Code of Columbia Pike calls out this structure as being of importance to the community.
