UPCOMING MEETING: 1401 Wilson Blvd. “Deep Throat” Garage Redevelopment

UPCOMING MEETING: 1401 Wilson Blvd. “Deep Throat” Garage Redevelopment

Members of the Arlington Planning Commission’s Site Plan Review Committee (SPRC) will be holding a meeting on Monday, October 21, to discuss proposed redevelopments in Arlington. The first part of that meeting, from 7:00 to 8:30 pm, will cover the 1401 Wilson Boulevard building, the location of the “Deep Throat” Garage. Already recognized with a County Historical Marker, the redevelopment of this site has increased awareness of the cultural importance of this site in our recent past political history.

The staff agenda for the October 21 meeting indicates that the historic status of any existing building on the site will be one of several items covered. At this time the proposal states that the County installed commemorative plaque will remain where it is today on North Nash Street.

In Chicago, the starting point of the Chicago fire, which is now the location of the Chicago Fire Adacemy, was commemorated during a 1961 site redevelopment by the installation of a bronze sculpture of stylized flames, entitled Pillar of Fire by sculptor Egon Weiner.

The staff report on this project is available online on the County website.
